Aya is 3 months now and she is drooling BIG TIME. Early teething perhaps? Well whatever the reason, she is so little still that most bibs look ridiculous on her so like any sewing mom, I had break out my fabric stash and pick the some fabrics for a tiny little infant bib. The picking of the fabric was such a chore (NOT!). Love making stuff like this for her - SO CUTE!
After a few minutes of fabric picking, cutting and sewing, I have a little infant bib ready for her to use - continue reading for my quick little tutorial:
Here's a quick look of how I made this:
(1) Looks up a sewing pattern that you like the shape of. I forgot where I got this pattern from (found it among my printouts of 'stuff to try'). I modified the original a little to make it not as wide and a bit shorter so it'll fit her little body.
(2) Trace the pattern onto your fabrics - I used a light canvas Kokka fabric for the bib front and birdseye (super absorbent and soft) cotton for the back. I did double the birdseye backing for super absorbency.
(3) Pin together the layers, with the right sides facing each other and sewing around with about 1/4" seam allowance. Make sure to leave about 4 inches open so you could slip the bib right side up again when you're done sewing.
(4) After flipping the bib right side up again, sew along the entire edge to give it a nice finished look.
(5) Add velcro to each of the flaps and voila! Baby bib ready to be used :) - Oh yeah don't forget to PRE-WASH your fabrics before use!
I will be sharing this at these lovely linky parties :).

Can't wait to attempt to make this! Sure mine won't be as cute though.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I have a 4 month old, and would love to try to make my own.
I read that drooling at age 3-5 months has something to do with the fact that saliva production is up, and that babies don't have the automatic swallow that older children and adults use to control saliva production. Don't know if that is definitely the case, but it does seem to make sense for my boys!
Can't wait to make a few, so I'm pinning this for later!
