Cozy Up With A New Fall Quilt

I know, I have this sickness with Autumn.  Maybe it's the beautiful colors, maybe it's the gorgeous weather, maybe the yummy foods...yes I love fall :).  That's why I am in love with this quilt.  I just finished it the other day and got a chance a few shots before listing in the shop.

Meet my latest quilt - a Autumn Chevron Quilt:

I am very excited that I finally got a chance to finish a TWIN size quilt - it's been a while and I really missed the larger quilt sizes.

I used the same fabrics for the backing and even repeated the chevron design in 2 rows in the back.

The warm earthy florals are just about perfect.  I quilted it free style for a soft finish.

The only regret I have about this quilt is not having more of these fabrics in my stash - I would love to make another one like it for my daughters room - a smaller toddler size.  Maybe I'll find some equivalents soon for that project.

This quilt is available at the shop right now.   Hopefully it'll find itself a nice home and be enjoyed for many many years to come.

A Custom Quilt

A couple of months ago, I was asked to make a custom quilt based on a quilt I made a little while back.  A simple, but beautiful quilt with flannel squares alongside soft colored prints.  After weeks of finding the right prints and putting together this quilt, it is finally ready to show (and already shipped to it's new home).

I love making this quilt - colors like this put together always reminds me of a care-free spring day.

Don't be afraid to mix blues with pinks, greens with oranges, polka dots with checkered and flowers with hounds-tooth.  Together they are all beautiful.

The back is kept simple with one of the prints from the quilt top design and a matching large print flower print - an element of surprise :)

Binding is soft and matches perfectly without distracting from any of the prints.

And the softness from the flannel off-white color is so cuddly and plays well with all the different prints.

I hope this quilt will be loved for many years to come.  Thank you for letting me have this opportunity to remake one of my favorite quilts :)!

Chevron Coral Quilts Completed

A quick picture update on 2 new baby quilts.  Beautiful corals and a modern design.  Love the way these turned out.  Each is about 36" square.

One of the reasons why I made these quilts is my love my the quilt backing.  It is from Michael Miller's Les Amis collection found here and I have been trying to a reason to use this fabric...and I am super happy with it in these quilts...and LOVE backing :)

For the binding I used an old favorite I had leftover from a few quilts ago - the colors matches perfectly and the slight print on it is just enough contrast to the quilt top.

I made 2 of these to add to the shop.  They are neatly folded and ready for a new home :)

Wear It Again Baby Clothes

Aya is almost 10 months now and growing like a weed. Like most of you know, baby clothes at this age is pricey and babies outgrow them usually after a few washes (if you're lucky!).  Looking for Aya's pile of 'no longer fit' clothes I was really bummed that she barely wore some of the really cute clothes she had.  So I decided to transform them like I see a lot of moms do.

So out with the scissors and ended up with 2 cute new tops.

I made a couple of more after this but forgot to photo them :(.

Here's a glimpse of how I transform the onesie - pretty simple and tons of great tutorials out there.
Pretty much snip, measure and sew.  Takes less than 10 minutes once you get the hang out it.

Love simple and money savings projects like these.

Happy sewing!

Little Boy Patchwork Quilt x 2

Double smiles for a double quilt finish!  I am very happy to share my 2 latest quilts.  They are inspired by the It's a Big Thing collection from Moda.  This project was started months ago and it is now ready for showing :)!

BoyQuilt-4

This quilt is all about BOY stuff. Trucks, cars, stars and the different hues of blues throughout this quilt screams BOY. I first fell in love with the trucks/cars fabric and really wanted to do a simple quilt around that fabric.

BoyQuilt

After the main fabric is picked it was easy to pulled coordinating fabrics together to create this great combo. I used a simple along the seam-straight line quilting technique for this patchwork quilt. Keeping the lines simple and clean.

BoyQuilt-3

For the binding, I used a coordinating stripe fabric.

BoyQuilt-5

Goes well with the second quilt as well (same quilt top and binding, just a different backing print)

BoyQuilt-6

My 2 boys are 6 and 4 now and have big boy quilts of their own, so I will not be keeping these two quilts around the house so they are available at my little Etsy shop HERE and HERE.

A Tiny Infant Bib and Quick Tutorial

Aya is 3 months now and she is drooling BIG TIME.  Early teething perhaps?  Well whatever the reason, she is so little still that most bibs look ridiculous on her so like any sewing mom, I had break out my fabric stash and pick the some fabrics for a tiny little infant bib.  The picking of the fabric was such a chore (NOT!).  Love making stuff like this for her - SO CUTE!

After a few minutes of fabric picking, cutting and sewing, I have a little infant bib ready for her to use - continue reading for my quick little tutorial:

Here's a quick look of how I made this:
(1) Looks up a sewing pattern that you like the shape of.  I forgot where I got this pattern from (found it among my printouts of 'stuff to try').  I modified the original a little to make it not as wide and a bit shorter so it'll fit her little body.

(2) Trace the pattern onto your fabrics - I used a light canvas Kokka fabric for the bib front and birdseye (super absorbent and soft) cotton for the back.  I did double the birdseye backing for super absorbency.

(3) Pin together the layers, with the right sides facing each other and sewing around with about 1/4" seam allowance.  Make sure to leave about 4 inches open so you could slip the bib right side up again when you're done sewing.

(4) After flipping the bib right side up again, sew along the entire edge to give it a nice finished look.

(5) Add velcro to each of the flaps and voila!  Baby bib ready to be used :) - Oh yeah don't forget to PRE-WASH your fabrics before use!

I will be sharing this at these lovely linky parties :).

Pillow Case #1 for The Boys - CHECK!

Remember this little post from last month.  Good news, I finally got a chance to sew up the pillowcase the for the boys - YEP that's right...ONE pillowcase complete.  I could've done several by now, but we ran into some disagreements on the pattern.  I originally wanted more of this fabric showing, the boys however didn't want a busy pillowcase.

We compromised and did this:
TransportAdventurePIllow-10

I used the 'too busy' (according to my son who wanted a ALL blue pillowcase) print on the edge as an accent edge instead of using it for the main area.  For the main area I went with an solid blue fabric. Overall I thought it was a fair compromise...though now I am behind on my sewing and still 3 pillowcase short, but at least I have 1 happy little more :).

I'll write up a quick little tutorial soon.

Belated Post - Custom Quilt Completed

With the busy holidays I totally forgot to post up pictures of the custom quilt I made over the holidays.  I posted the progress a while back here, but here is the finished product :).

[Sorry in advance for the less-than-great pictures.  I took this right before I packaged it to be mailed out.  Since it was a rush delivery I didn't have time to get the lighting and everything just right.]

This one-of-a-kind quilt is twin size with blocks that were sent from the requester. It turned out just beautifully.

CustomQuilt1-2

I picked the colors for the sashing and borders to bring out some of the common colors in the quilt blocks that I was given.  The binding fabric was also supplied by the requester.

CustomQuilt1-4

Due to the tight timeframe to complete this quilt, I stuck with a basic design for the quilt back.   For the quilting itself, I used a free-style meandering method that worked very well with the quilt.

CustomQuilt1-3

I hope this is quilt is enjoyed for years to come :)

CustomQuilt1

I'll be sharing this project [like all my projects] at these awesome linking parties :).
