Autumn Goodies Added To Etsy

You know how much I adore Autumn.  So when this time of year rolls around I get totally inspired by all the beautiful colors.  Also this year, I decided to make some fall inspired to add to my little Etsy shop.

I few autumn inspired cloth napkin prints to add to the collection. 

 

The second one (trees) is an old favorite of mine.  I'm so glad this print is back and super excited that I could start creating items with it again - perfect for the fall.

In addition to napkins (we can't get enough of this at our house - I think our current rotation of napkins we use for a family of 5 is about 120 now and counting!), I also started to make fabric bunting.  I love the way these look and completely functional too.  I sewn it so it's completely rewashing - no fraying and easy to iron flat.

This is my favorite, fall inspired bunting.  Absolutely beautiful colors - reds, oranges and browns.

Fabric Bunting is such a great way to add a pop of color to any room or outdoor activity.  Our boys like to string it around the living room and playroom for fun :).  Silly kids!

Here's one that was Halloween inspired.  This will be used outside our home very soon.

Being a Little Green With Cloth Napkins

I don't really consider my family 'green' - yes we do drive a Prius as our main vehicle, we recycle as much as we can, we use bio/earth friendly products and yes we try not to use paper products when we can.  Hmmm maybe we are a little 'green'.

 

A few cloth napkins I pulled from our household's cloth napkin pile.

But whatever the label is, I wanted to share one of my favorite things around the house.  It happened out of necessity.  When my oldest was around 2.5 and my younger one was starting solids, I got FED UP with paper napkins.  We would go through dozens at one meal sometimes.  The paper ones would tear, get stuck on their little sticker mouths and hands and even eaten sometimes.  As a solution, I decided to sew up some cloth napkins from fabrics from my stash.

The sewing wasn't hard, but it took a bit of time since I kept having to sew more and more to keep up with the demands of a growing family (we must have about 80 napkins now - and it usually last us a whole week before washing).  Here we are 3 years later and we are still using cloth napkins.  We keep a stash of emergency paper ones somewhere in the pantry just in case we don't have time to wash or have larger parties.  I don't know about the rest of the family, but I am absolutely hooked on cloth napkins.

Zig Zag Quilt

I am very excited to share my next finished quilt.  It is one of 2 big Zig Zag quilts I'm working on and it is finally FINISHED :).

The front features 7 Zig Zags with 3 alternating color schemes. All the Zig Zags in the front are cotton prints.  The back of the quilt is a selection of coordinating Kona solids (bottom pic).

One of the things I absolutely adore about this quilt is the binding.  Unfortunately I don't have the print/designer for this fabric :(.  But I totally love the way it goes with the colors:

Child's Play Quilt Pattern Now Available

I am super excited about this...my FIRST completed Quilt pattern!!!!  I've been known to design on paper, napkins, kid's coloring books...  Even my most 'formal' designs are all informally typed in a fashion that only I understand...haha I'm sure some of you could relate.  So writing up a design that I had to share with others was a HUGE step for me :).

So without further ado - here's the super neat, super organized pattern for Child's Play:

I would love to hear your feedback on this pattern and the instructions...hopefully they are nice and clear :P.  To complement this pattern and future ones I am also starting a Tutorial & Tips section here.  You may have already noticed the 'Tutorial & Tips' tab beneath the blog header.  I'm hoping to get the first set of tutorials ready by the end of this week...I'll keep everyone posted :).  The first few sets will go over binding - cutting for, assembling and attaching it to a quilt.

I am very excited and happy about all the new additions to JAQS Studio and hopefully will continue to expand as time goes on.

Fabric Love

Can't help but to think of spring.  I want to say good-bye to the cold winter days.  As much as I love snuggling up to a warm quilt - I want some SUNSHINE.  That's why this week I am loving these two fabrics.  Reminds me of spring :)...and I used it in my newly finished quilt: Child's Play Kohana.

Labels for My Quilts

I am very excited about my latest completed quilt - Red Poppies.  Unfortunately with the weather and busy Christmas season I haven't had a chance to take shots of the completed quilt yet.  But I was able to take some shots of my next exciting feature on my quilts - LABELS :).

Something small but I think adds a lot to the finished project:


I kept the stitch around the edging of the label big so that it is obviously hand sewn in.  I wanted to maintain that more personal and handmade element in the quilt. 

I got these @ Mommie Made it on Etsy. Lisa there was very nice and helpful in making sure my order turned out just write. I got the Organic Cotton Twill Ribbon.

To get the labels ready for use, I cut each one out and sealed the edges with Fray Check.



Let each one try and then I put in another layer of Fray Check just in case :)
