Soft Tones Squares Patchwork Quilt

One of my favorite things to do is to match together beautiful fabrics.   And when I'm lucky enough I get to do that in a quilt :).  That's why I am very happy with this finished quilt.  I absolutely adore all the fabrics used in the quilt and the color combos are definitely drool worthy.

One of my favorite prints in this quilt is the mustard yellow print.  I've been saving it in my fabric stash for a while waiting for a chance to use it.  I love it so much I used it in the quilt back too!

The simplicity of the quilting makes the quilt drape beautiful - all 51" x 51" of it.  For the binding I used a matching stripe fabric that goes beautifully with the modern feel of the quilt.

This quilt was an absolutely joy to work on and I am more than happy with the way it turned out.  Thank you great fabric designers out there for bringing us such beautiful fabrics to work with :)!

Making Twill Tape Tags

If you've ever ordered my napkin sets (shameless plug ;)) you know that I use twill tape as a tag on each set up napkins.  They are each individually printed, ironed, cut and attached by yours truly.  I know it's tedious at times but I believe in the concept of making things from scratch...plus the process is relaxing when I have the time :).

So once in while I make a big batch of it and today I want to share with you some photos of this process.

Step 1: Design your logo and the REVERSE (aka mirror image) of it ready to print

Step 2: Print it on transfer paper like this one from Amazon

Step 3: Cut out your logos

Step 4: Iron on (aka transfer on) to your twill tape

Step5: Cut to into individual labels

I make a bunch of these at a time and save them in a zipper bag.  A little tedious...a little therapeutic...but from scratch and saves a little bit of $$ :).

Belated Post - Custom Quilt Completed

With the busy holidays I totally forgot to post up pictures of the custom quilt I made over the holidays.  I posted the progress a while back here, but here is the finished product :).

[Sorry in advance for the less-than-great pictures.  I took this right before I packaged it to be mailed out.  Since it was a rush delivery I didn't have time to get the lighting and everything just right.]

This one-of-a-kind quilt is twin size with blocks that were sent from the requester. It turned out just beautifully.

CustomQuilt1-2

I picked the colors for the sashing and borders to bring out some of the common colors in the quilt blocks that I was given.  The binding fabric was also supplied by the requester.

CustomQuilt1-4

Due to the tight timeframe to complete this quilt, I stuck with a basic design for the quilt back.   For the quilting itself, I used a free-style meandering method that worked very well with the quilt.

CustomQuilt1-3

I hope this is quilt is enjoyed for years to come :)

Toddler Size Chevron Quilt Completed

Chevrons are everywhere these days.  I love the simplicity of the design and who doesn't like a little zigzag once in a while? :)  It also happens to be one of my favorite quilt designs to use.  So I was very happy to work on this small toddler quilt:

Sorry the picture quality this time isn't that great.  My flash on the camera was dying and it was just a frustrating experience trying to get the shots that I wanted.  Hopefully these are enough to see the details of the quilt.

For the quilting, I want with a straight line around the seams approach and added extra stitches between each seam.   This gives the whole quilt a nice chevron design.  I'm a sucker for bright binding and I am ecstatic that I had this beautiful stripe one from Riley Blake.

On the back I went for a big bold orange floral print with a solids to match the quilt front.  I love how it turned out :).

The quilt to features 4 colorways - blue, orange, green and pinks.  Each has matching prints that coordinates with each other.

I am very happy about how this quilt turned out.  It has been washed and cuddly now for it's new home :).

Hourglass Quilt Completed

Can this be true?  Have I finally found the time to not only complete a few quilts but also take pictures of them???  It is true - here's proof #1 - Hourglass Quilt completed :)

hourGlass -multicolor

The fabrics are a collection of a few of my favorites from over the last few months. I wanted to keep the colors different but the feel to be a little on the modern side to match the pattern.

hourGlass -multicolor-3

For the border I used a very small (and cute) hexagon print from the Quilt Blocks collection. I think the clean lines of it goes very well of the quilt top.

hourGlass -multicolor-2

I wanted to keep the quilting clean and modern as well so I went with a straight stitch around every seam of the quilt. It's enough to give it nice cozy quilt feel but doesn't compromise the quilt top design.

hourGlass -multicolor-4

I absolutely love making this quilt.  The hourglass pattern is great and very fun to work with.  I'm sure I'll be making more quilts that are inspired by this timeless pattern :).

Wedding Crafts

My sister's wedding was last weekend in South Lake Tahoe in Nevada/California.  It was absolutely gorgeous and I am very happy for my sister and my brand new brother in-law.  Our boys had a great time as ring bearers for the wedding.  Here are some of the before-the-wedding fun in preparation for the wedding: custom ring bear pillows and tie/bow that perfectly matches the wedding colors :)

The wedding colors were mainly eggplant purple and green, accented by NATURE :) - to match with the pine trees and natural decor of Lake Tahoe.   For the ring bearer pillows I decided to pull all these elements together but also keep the design on the simple side.  The finished pillows are about 8.5 inches square.

To make the ring bear pillows I started with 2 off-white pillows - stuffed with the same stuff I use to stuff regular pillows.

Then I gathered all the decorations needed for the pillow - ribbons, pine cones, rings, and of course HOT GLUE GUN.  I gathered the pine cone rosettes from my front yard :)

I started assembling the pillows by layering the ribbons - held nice and tight by a few pumps from the hot glue gun.

Top with a fancy bow made by the same green ribbon:

Finish with the pine cone rosette and rings - don't forget to use as much hot glue as possible to keep everything nice and tight.  I'm glad I did because I boys put these pillows to the test during the wedding :)

And voila - a pair of custom made ring bearer pillows:

For the boys' ties I saw this great tutorial HERE.  It was super easy to make and the results were fabulous.  I also made a pair of bowties as well - just in case the boys didn't want to wear the ties.  Turns out that they loved the ties.

Making the ties was as easy as cutting out the fabrics:

Follow these easy steps and you have ties (and bowties) ready for use.  I recommend making your own kid's ties - it's easy, you could custom it to any color theme and you save a bunch of $$.

Another perk of making your own children's ties - since the boys saw the whole process they LOVED wearing the ties they 'help' make :)

Two happy boys ready to walk down the aisle.

Congratulations again Feng and Mike - you two make a SUPER cute couple :).  I am very proud and happy for the both of you.

Walk in the Woods Children Quilt - Completed!

My latest quilt is all washed, dried and ready for viewing in all it's puffy glory.  This quilt is mainly made using Moda's Walk in the Woods fabric and I LOVE it.

Here's a view of it from the front.  I love all the crinkles in it.  For the first time, I used Heirloom wool batting.  It is super warm, but still very light and easy to wash.  It makes the quilt much for crinkly than what I usually use (cotton batting).

At first I wasn't sure if I should add any blues to the quilt top but I decided to do it anyways because I didn't want the quilt to be too pink :).  Turns out the blue really brings out the color of the dress on the little girl in the pictures.

IMG_1960

For the binding material I used a little polka pink from from Riley Blake.  I think it works very well with the quilt top and the quilt bottom.

IMG_1949

For the quilt bottom I used a few prints that was used on the front including this pink beauty - also from Moda.

 IMG_1944

I just really love how soft and peaceful this quilt feels.  I think I will be using the Heirloom wool batting again in the future.

I would like to introduce you to my first quilt of 2012 :) - I know it's mid February already but hey time flies and I've been ... occupied. With that sad, I am extremely happy and excited to share my latest quilt - Soft Squares.

SoftSquaresQuilt1

The quilt top is a checkered design with prints and solid natural flannel from Robert Kaufman. The quilt back is a beautiful cotton print (Backyard Butterflies from Bernatex).

SoftSquaresQuilt1-2

I absolutely adore the way all the colors play together. It is a very soft and cuddly.  I love the simplicity of the design - showing off each fabric.  I am also thrilled that the flannel fabric worked so well with the prints.  Initially I was planning on using a cotton solid but when the flannel fabric arrived I couldn't resist using it in this quilt :)

This quilt is quilted together using a straight stitching along each seam. It creates a durable and modern feel to this beautiful quilt top. The binding is a matching stripe print that goes so nicely with the quilt top and quilt bottom.
